Second Graders Receive Their First Chumashim

By RamazKids.com

Mazal Tov to the second graders on receiving their first chumashim. The children learned about the Torah and how a chumash is organized by parshiot, perakim and pesukim. They also learned gematria to understand the numeration.

At the celebration the students sang songs for their families and guests. Each child was called to the Torah for an aliyah where they recited the brachah "noten haTorah." Each child was then presented with his/her first chumash by a family member. The celebration continued with more singing and the children reciting the "shehechiyanu" brachah. Rabbi Lookstein wished them all Mazal Tov and recited the additional brachah of "hatov v'hameitiv" together with everyone in attendance as the occasion is a celebration for the entire community. The second grade teachers bestowed blessings on the children too. May the children learn Torah every day and may the excitement of the Chag haChumash celebration continue throughout their lives whenever they learn.

May the Torah guide them as young men and women in the world at large.
